The problem

Open a global map of a Cameroonian town and most streets have no name. The junction everyone navigates by is not marked. The quarter you would give a taxi driver does not appear. People here navigate by landmark, by quarter and by what the place is called out loud — and none of that is on the map.

What we are building

• Maps that work offline. Download a region and keep navigating when the signal goes.
• Search in the language people use. Including Pidgin, and including the landmark names that never made it into any official register.
• Community contribution. Anyone can add a missing place or correct a wrong one. Every submission is moderated before it goes live.
• Big Motor Alert. A highway safety layer flagging the stretches of road where heavy vehicles make overtaking dangerous.

Status

CamMaps is in active development as a standalone public platform.
